Just Some Numbers
When tragedy strikes and I’m reeling
From an uncontrollable feeling
And it’s hard to keep dealing with thoughts I can’t comprehend
I have to regain perspective
If I want to remain effective
Cause everything is subjective in the end
So 280,000 perished in a wave
200,000 more each year are burning to their grave
250,000 doctors accidents betray
How much can one grieve?
I can’t conceive
5 million every year from smoking a pack a day
Another 1.5 drunkenly drive their lives away
And yes a million babies die in their cribs where they lay
Yet we live
It’s all relative
Just some numbers to give me piece of mind
Just some numbers to keep myself aligned
With the bigger picture of our lives in space and time
Just some numbers 1 2 3 4
500,000 in Sudan and Darfur
Another 100,000 plus in this Iraqi war
200,000 suicides a year add to the score
Every day
155,000 pass away
30,000 from curable disease
10,000 more from the deadly HIV
25,000 from not enough to eat
Yes they’re gone
But we go on
Just some numbers of how many die
Just some numbers to help me to deny
Cause I cant pretend to comprehend the end of you n I
Just some numbers 1 2 3 4 5
Come on, its no big deal
As long as you’ve got your next meal
Be for real this death I mean life is all that’s left
It’s not that I don’t care
But shouldn’t we be fair
There’s misery everywhere we should respect
Just some numbers that only will increase
Just some numbers to give me inner peace
Cause I cant pretend to comprehend the end of my life’s lease
Just some numbers un, deux, trios, quatre, cinq, six

After reading those stats, I realized how fragile life really is. I procrastinate all the time, but this just goes to show that all we really have is today. Life is precious, and we must do all that we can to protect it.
